Barbara became aware of the Veterans Cemetery after her father passed away in 2011 and her mother volunteered as a greeter in the chapel during committal services for many years.

In her visits to the Veterans Cemetery she was always impressed how it was such a serene and respectful place.  She became interested in the Friends, sponsored a bench and brick becoming a member, which led to her accepting her nomination for a seat on the board and being elected in October 2021.

She worked at the Springfield Police Department as a civilian, became an Auxiliary Police Officer and in 1986 became a full-time police officer. She attended Anna Maria College and graduated with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice.

She retired in 2006 and worked as a Deputy US Marshal in the Springfield Federal Courts for several years.
