Memorial Day is a day to honor members of the military who were killed in service, both during deployments overseas or in training and service in the U.S. Across the country.
"They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing, and again when your name is spoken for the last time."
The Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Agawam remembers and honors these heroes by placing flags at every headstone and at the columbariums. The name of the veteran is spoken as each flag is placed.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who came out on an unusually hot May morning to assist the cemetery grounds crew and administrative staff in placing nearly 10,800 flags. Thanks to the efforts of caring individuals, families, and groups including Mass Mutual and Westover Air Force Base, the work was completed in just 90 minutes!
